Farms can breathe life into our economy, ecology and community.  We aim to lean into organic opportunities to produce blooms, connect people, and inject dollars into local business.

Creation cultivates Hope.  Being in contact with nature grounds us emotionally and spiritually, and - creaky joints aside - physically.

Breath-taking beauty can be cultivated right here in Illinois topsoil.  You don't need to go far for Instagram-worthy nature.

We grow florist quality blooms
in Illinois topsoil.

whether it's the solace of soulful blue anemones,

the energizing radiance of golden sunflowers

When words are not enough, flowers speak volumes:     Comfort. Calm. Gratitude. Love. Celebration! And that's why we grow.

I’ve been rooted in rural Illinois horticulture all of my life.

It started in Mom's strawberry patch, grumbling as I struggled to fill my gallon bucket.  But her strawberry jam made it all worthwhile. 🍓

That cranky start sprouted into

  • a 4-H floral design course

  • a summer job throughout high school, growing Iris, Daylilies, Hosta and Mums at Hornbaker Gardens in Princeton, Illinois

  • a degree in Ornamental Horticulture from the University of Illinois

  • a full time position designing landscapes near Cleveland, Ohio at Zergott's Landscaping.

  • garden writing for The Daily Journal

  • and FINALLY: Flat Rock Farm Co.

I have a passion for growing sustainably and look forward to continuing to develop locally grown flower production in Kankakee County.

nature heals, beauty restores and God's creation nourishes our souls

These quiet moments help us remember what's important and what's not.  Not only that, but when we get back from our little breathing vacations, our minds, bodies and hearts have more to give.     I believe flowers can foster these moments in our lives.

but...why?
Locally grown flowers
are healthier
for our bodies, our ecology
and our economy.

We're rooting for you, friend.
