Dig into the tools and processes of soil-blocking. Expect to get your hands dirty: you bring the elbow grease and we'll provide the supplies and instruction to make 3 trays of soil blocks, enough to start 120 plant babies.
Once your blocks are complete, we'll walk through seed-sowing steps and provide guidance as you sow 40 of those blocks with some of our favorite specialty cut-flower seeds. The remaining blocks will be yours to sow with your own seed stash! Soil-blocks can also be rehydrated and sown at a later date.
Lastly, we'll take a look at our growing space and discuss strategies for germination success and sprout care.
Block Party | a Soil Blocking Workshop
This is an on-farm event.
Join us at 2475 N 3750W Rd Kankakee, IL 60901.
Wear a coat - the first part of the workshop will be held in a protected outdoor space. It may be warm, but it might not. We want you to be comfortable.
Boots are recommended - farm life is no place for high heels. We'll be working partially outdoors and we'd hate to send you home with Flat Rock mud on your good Nikes. If you have shoes you don't mind getting dirty, they'll love it here.
Bathrooms are available.
